”… To me, Stina Bäckman´s paintings are very musical, like small and
delicate note creations made by the main representatives of Impressionism,
Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, or like a powerful opera by Richard
Wagner, one of music history’s greatest …”
“… The art of Stina Bäckman is not possible to run by without noticing…her
paintings require involvement seeing that behind the surface, behind the
message of the painting, lies an infinite depth of the soul.”
From the big art hall exhibition ¨Three harmonies¨ in Skellefteå, 1999, Mikael Bengtsson, Art Critic at the newspaper ¨Norra Västerbotten¨
“… The paintings by Stina Bäckman express purity and spirituality, giving
you something to think about and a calm mood …”

Extract from an interview with Stina Bäckman during the exhibition
¨Room of feelings¨ in Gothenburg, 2005.
She has painted several paintings of people wearing a mask.
– The art could help us tear down these masks. It could open our senses, make us see, feel and meet other people. If you are wearing a mask when meeting another person, that person will put on a mask as well.
Stina works in oil, acrylic and mixed technique, adds on, wipes and scrapes off. And she moves fast. She uses the back of the brush to outline characters
and buildings in the wet paint and she calls her paintings “her children.
– I am so present in the moment. The stroke of the brush is very important to me. and the colour is my music! The colours are chiming. In the left room the painting “Greatest of all is Love” leads the way, a motto Stina tries to live by.
The red colour is on fire. But she also has a preference for yellow.
